Baptism

Baptism is the expression of faith regarding Jesus Christ’s message of redemption. It is another step one must undertake after repenting and accepting Jesus Christ as Savior.

The Bible uses the following verses to buttress the need for baptism:

1 Mark 16:16, “whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

2 Acts 2:38, Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 22:16, “And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and wash your sins away, calling on his name.”

1 Corinthians 13:13, “for we were all baptized by one spirit to form one body – whether Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free – and we were all given the one spirit to drink.”

Baptism is one of the cornerstones of Jesus Christ’s principles. It takes a pride of place in his ministry both before his coming to Earth and after he came, and he enjoined his followers to go through the process. This signifies his death and resurrection. The very act of immersion in a body of water and being pulled out.

Additional examples of baptism in the Bible include John the Baptist’s reference to baptism in Matthew 3:11, and Jesus’ baptism in Matthew 3:13-17 and Mark 1:8.
