The Journey of Life

The Journey of Life” is a series of four that will focus on the home, the church, the marketplace, and relationships. These are mainly where man’s purpose for existence takes place.

Let us begin with the home: there are three scriptures that state the preferred dynamics that should exist there. 1 Peter 3:1-7 explains the conduct expected of husbands and wives in their home. Ephesians 6:1-3 focuses on the responsibility of children to their parents and the benefit of doing so, and Ephesians 6:4 is the conduct that fathers should follow when dealing with their children. Then Genesis 24-27 gave us an example of a flawed home dynamic and how it ended.

The story centered around Isaac and Rebecca. A situation arose; the baby in her womb “jostled,” and she went to inquire of the Lord. In Genesis 25:23, the Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.” There was no mention of Rebecca sharing this revelation with her husband. Also, the Bible did not say why she didn’t share the situation in her womb with her husband. Eventually, what the Lord said to her became reality; she was delivered of twins, and they were visibly different at birth. With the passage of time, their vocation differed. This thereby caused Isaac to love Esau more and caused Rebecca to love Jacob more. This set the stage for a conflict. On a day when Esau got home from his hunt of wild animals, Jacob, who worked around the house, had made stew. Esau, who was hungry, asked for some of the stew. Jacob asked for his birthright in exchange for the stew, and Esau willingly gave it up. The exchange seems to be amicable at this point. But in Genesis 27:43-46, we see the casual exchange become reality and the effect on the family’s future and the outcome, which was fear and hatred.

It is a good idea that all the individuals in a home work together to achieve peace. A requisite for joy, growth, and progress always.
