The Promised One

In John 14:15-17, Jesus, speaking to his disciples about what would become of them when he goes to heaven, says, “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you, and I will be in you.” The promise is significant in that the coming of the Holy Spirit has helped the Christian ministries to grow exponentially worldwide.

First on the day of Pentecost, as recorded in Acts 2:2-4. “Suddenly, he came like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven, and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” Today, Christians all over the world speak in tongues as the Spirit leads. However, he does much more. The spirit reminds us of Jesus’ words in John 14:26. He spotlights scriptures in time of need, as found in 1 Corinthians 2:13-14, he convicts one of sin, John 16:7-11, he gives wisdom and teaches, Luke 12:12, he inspires prophets, 1 Peter 1:20-21, he guides and comforts Christians, John 14:18, and he helps Christians know what to pray for, Romans 8:26-27.

It is therefore glaring that the Holy Spirit is helpful. Pray to him through Jesus Christ in your time of need.
