According to the Bible, the place where one spends eternity is a choice. Between everlasting living in God’s presence in heaven, or eternal separation from Him in Hades. The book of Ecclesiastes, however, sheds more light on the subject matter in chapter 3:11. It states that, “God has set eternity in the human heart.” It means, therefore, that the subject of this post should not only be seen as something to be achieved at the end of living on Earth, but presently as we live with faith in Jesus Christ. The following are some of the biblical verses that give their views on eternity.
Matthew 7:13 places an emphasis on how our daily living can be done so as to enter Heaven eventually. “Enter through the narrow gate.” If we seek the help of the Holy Spirit, it will teach us how this can be done. Another verse is Matthew 13:40-43, which focuses on the judgment that will lead to the eventual separation of the just and unjust. “They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father.” Luke 16: 19-31, also paints a picture of what happens after life. Where one ends up. The difference is shown. Those in heaven have a blissful life, while those in Hades are in torment. Verse 26 gave the conclusion: those in heaven can no longer help those in Hades, as God states, “And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.”
On his part, John 5:24 focuses on the criteria for being with the Lord. “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged. But has crossed over from death to life.” He expands the criteria further in John 14:6, stating the declaration of Jesus Christ, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”
In conclusion, a reflection of 1 Timothy 2:4, which states, “who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth.” I can safely say that all Men have been called to spend eternity with God through the salvation story propagated by Jesus Christ and not in a place of torment.
